Dragoman Overland has been running overland adventure trips for over forty years using specially converted Mercedes trucks. It offers five family adventure tours to Africa and Asia for those with children over 7 years old. The tours have been specially designed to appeal to children as well as adults. The itineraries combine adventure travel with a chance to try out many exciting activities whilst allowing time to enjoy yourselves.

Accommodation is mostly in 2 - 4 star hotels with en-suite facilities and swimming pools where possible. Some of the trips may include nights in more basic accommodation such as camping, bush camps, ranch stays, mountain gites, village houses or overnight trains.

From 5 years for group trips, from 2 years for independent trips. Each activity and holiday has its own minimum age.

Tours are either camping tours or lodging tours. All camp equipment is provided for camping tours - you just need to bring a sleeping bag. Everyone gets involved with camp duties from pitching the tents to cooking meals. For lodging tours, a combination of lodges, cabins, hotels and motels is used.

All tours offer a variety of included and optional activities from the gentle fun of a canoe trip to the adrenaline rush of white water rafting though the Grand Canyon. Other activities include biking, hiking, rock climbing, swimming, kayaking, water-skiing, horse-riding, rier tubing and glacier walking.

Imaginative Family tours are based on Imaginative Traveller's regular small group adventures for 'grown ups', with just the right adjustments (e.g. shorter travelling times, more hotels with pools, more than one night at any one place, child friendly tour leaders) to make them perfect for your family, without losing any of the adventure or authenticity. The itineraries are fun and active with a balance of rest and play. The family tours are aimed at parents with children aged 6 and over. There is a maximum group size of 20 people and families come from the UK, North America, Australia and Europe. There are also two Family Volunteer trip options to Kenya and Thailand. These trips include a few days where the whole family can assist with daly tasks at elephant sanctuaries.

Mainly in 2, 3 and 4 star hotels, some with swimming pools. More basic accommodation where you go off the beaten track to stay with local families, in bedouin camps or take an overnight train/boat journey.

Kumuka Worldwide offer family adventure tours ranging from 9-14 days in China, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand. The aim of a Kumuka Family Holiday in Asia is to provide families with a genuine experience of the country and its culture, without the hassle of trying to manage and organise such a trip independently. Child and adult friendly activities and excursions have been carefully planned, transport is comfortable and clean, and hotels have been specifically chosen for their facilities and family friendly standards. The tours include a mixture of sightseeing and free time, and experienced guides will always assist you to make the most of your opportunities and time in these areas.

The Adventure Company offers a wide selection of family adventures. The trips are aimed at families who want more from their holidays than a standard, stay-put package. The trips are designed to be a fun adventure that all members of the family can join in and are a great opportunity for families to spend time together, something that can sometimes be in short supply at home. The standard group size is 16 - 20 (3 to 5 families). The minimum age on most of the trips is 5 years, but there are infant adventures for families with very young children (1 year plus). There are also specially designed tours for families with teenage children. The Adventure Company also offer a number of family winter activity holidays.

Accommodation is generally in small two or three-star hotels with local character. These often have en-suite facilities and air conditioning. Many hotels also have swimming pools. Some trips have a few nights in more basic accommodation such as jungle lodges, tents or local family homes.

Activities vary by tour. Examples include abseiling, camel riding, canoeing, cycling, dog sledding, elephant riding, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, rafting, snorkelling, snowshoeing and swimming.

World Expeditions has been in operation since 1975. It specialises in trekking and adventure holidays. There are a good selection of family adventure trips including favourites such as trekking in Nepal, exploring Vietnam and game viewing in Tanzania. The emphasis is on learning and discovery and all the family trips allow time to visit schools and interact with the local children. Private trips can also be arranged and the company particilarly recommends the Inca Trail, North India including camel riding and cycling and Thailand. The company operates a policy of sustainable tourism and contributes generously to various organisations which in turn support the local people of the places where they operate.
